“Wellness breaks in Perthshire”
As told by Tina Logan
Fernbank is a beautifully decorated Victorian property which lies in the heart of Highland Perthshire.
“As owner of Fernbank, I love welcoming guests to my home in the beautiful Perthshire market town of Aberfeldy, famous for its clean air and fine Highland scenery. I greatly enjoy cooking and serving up hearty breakfasts and I pride myself in offering relaxed, comfortable and spotlessly clean accommodation for visitors to relax and recharge. But as you’ll read here, I like to think that I also offer something a little bit different to your average Guest House.
My background is in education, where I taught PE both within Scotland and overseas, progressing my career to principal teacher level and taking on pastoral roles before leaving the sector 4 years ago. I am therefore extremely experienced in ‘meeting individual needs’ and have always been passionate about fitness and wellness. I also love spending time in nature; mountaineering, swimming, biking and walking with my beloved dogs Pebbles and Obi. It was this love of the outdoors which moved me and my two children from my hometown of North Berwick to beautiful Aberfeldy 10 years ago.
As a well-practiced yogi, I started my yoga teacher training in 2017, the same year that I purchased and moved into Fernbank. Already operating as a B & B, I gave the property a much-needed face lift and expanded the business from four to seven en-suite guest rooms. In conjunction with this, I converted a room on the ground floor into a little yoga studio. My classes, both group and individual, within the local community started to really take off, so I began offering yoga to my guests too. This proved so popular, that I decided to test the water with a ‘yoga escape’ weekend bringing people together to share yoga classes (often outdoors in Fernbank’s large garden), sound baths, walks, meditation, vegetarian meals and offering additional treatments such as reiki and massage. These weekends have proven to be very successful and are now a monthly feature at Fernbank with people regularly rebooking. In 2022, I will be co-running two long weekends with expert nutritionist Amanda Hamilton and offering a creative writing/yoga weekend with accomplished author Linda Cracknell.
As a natural host, there is nothing I like more than having a full house and ensuring people are having a fabulous time. I enjoy organising and have found that during these crazily busy times in which we live, I am able to provide a convenient and highly desirable service in arranging bespoke stays for friends, work colleagues and families which are tailor made to their budget, interests, fitness levels and so on.
A quick brief to me and I will be sure to use my local knowledge and connections to plan a trip from start to finish, so that all my guests need to do is pack a bag and rock up! I can also coordinate distillery tours, cooking experiences, outdoor adventures, Loch side spa experiences, foraging walks, golf, mountain safaris and lots more so that guests make the most of their time in this extremely scenic and safe pocket of the world”.
